Joseph Deems is passionate about technology, teaching, and theatre. At Â鶹´«Ã½, he’s pursuing all three.
He's majoring in technology education and manufacturing technology, with a minor in entertainment design and production. Originally from Pittsburgh where he attended Eden Christian Academy, Joseph chose Â鶹´«Ã½ for its small class sizes.
“At Â鶹´«Ã½, you are part of a close-knit community where you are known by professors rather than just being a number.â€
One of Joseph’s most significant interests is working behind the scenes in technical theater, mainly focusing on sound. After graduation, he aspires to become a high school technology teacher while also utilizing the skills acquired from his minor to assist with local theatre productions.
Although he always knew he wanted to work in technology, he was initially uncertain about the specific path. Conversations with Â鶹´«Ã½ professors during his campus tour helped him realize that teaching was the right direction, prompting him to add a second major in manufacturing technology to pursue a future role as a college professor.
Joseph says Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Department of Statistics and Applied Technology is effectively preparing him for the real world through hands-on laboratory experiences and industry-experienced faculty.
“The professors genuinely care about our success in life, not just in the classroom.â€
At Â鶹´«Ã½, Joseph is active in several organizations, including the Freed Center Scene Shop, Residence Life, Teachers of Tomorrow, and Epsilon Pi Tau. He’s worked on many Freed Center productions, learning the ins and outs of backstage roles.
